GAME Plan with my Students

Using the GAME plan with my students can be very effective. I plan on implementing the GAME plan in my classroom to meet the NETS for my students. I will start by always having a goal that I expect my students to reach. If I set goals for my students they will know exactly where they should be when the lesson is finished. This gives them something to reach for. I will help them determine a plan of action when learning the material and using technology to do this. The GAME plan will also allow my students to realize what methods are more helpful for them in the learning process by monitoring their progress toward the goals using technology to keep track of their progress. Lastly I will provide ways of evaluation that require the use of technology. This will help my students realize what they have accomplished while at the same time utilize technology skills that meet the NETS for students.

  1. Jonathan,

You point out one of the most valuable effects of implementing a self-directed learning plan that includes reflection, such as the GAME plan—developing a greater understanding of oneself as a learner. This understanding, coupled with an understanding of their accomplishments, helps learners develop greater independence and justified confidence. Just as this learning process is recursive, so are the competence and confidence it fosters. This will come in handy long after their formal schooling is behind them.

  2. Johnathan,

Your students will benefit by the example you set for them. We are role models and should model effective ways to become self-directed learners. The GAME Plan is a simple yet purposeful way to set and reach goals while monitoring our progress. If your students learn how to use this plan in school, they should carry these skills with them into the future.

  3. Jonathan,

I always like to start a lesson with setting a goal also. I think students need to be given an idea of the direction each lesson is going. As we incorporate technology into lessons, I feel we will have to remind the students that mastering the tool is not as important as learning the content of the subject.

  4. Jonathan,

I think your students will gain a lot of skills and knowledge from completing a GAME plan inside and outside of the educational system. I also think that it is great that you are going to complete it with them and assist them with the process. Sometimes, althouhg simple, it may seem daunting to complete and kids aren't always the best and understanding and setting short term and long term goals (then again,a dults aren't so great either).
